August 3, 1939: "The United States Forest Service has launched an intensive fire observation tower construction program in the White Mountain National Forest area which, when finally concluded a year from this fall, will nearly double the number of towers now in operation. Completion of two is expected the latter part of this month.
Towers that will be completed within a few weeks are located on Cooley Hill, elevation 2,500 feet, in the northwest part of Easton. The tower is being built by Camp Wildwood CCC recruits from Woodsville." (The Portsmouth Herald)
