October 9, 1937: "Fire lookout stations were closed this week, in Coos county, at Deer Mt., Magalloway mountain, Signal mountain, and Milan hill." (The Portsmouth Herald)
August 4, 2006: A new tower cab was airlifted to the Magalloway Mountain tower.
July 19, 2009: "The Outrage concerns the Magalloway Mountain fire lookout tower, one of the most scenic and venerated fire towers of the 16 that are still operational in New Hampshire.
Sometime on Saturday, July 11, persons unknown trashed the lookout's cabin and storage shed, and tried to break into the tower cabin, causing more than $1,000 in damage.
In a region of relatively few trails and hiking destinations, Magalloway ranks at the top. The trailhead is at the end of a great drive through Pittsburg and up Route 3 through Moose Alley to Magalloway Road. It's an easy hike to the top of the highest (3,360 feet) and most beautiful mountains in the region. You can see New Hampshire's northernmost top, as well as Vermont, Maine and lower Quebec.
It takes real malice to do this kind of evil deed. We have little enough beauty and sanctity in this world. Someone knows, and John Accardi of Forests and Lands is the one to call." Written by John Harrigan in the (UnionLeader.com)
