KENTUCKY LOOKOUTS
SAVAGE
Clinton County
July 29, 1954: "Bruce Sloan, President of the Sloan Coal Company, has given a lookout tower site to the Division of Forestry. This site is at the heads of Duvall Valley and Gap Creek.
It is planned to build an 80 foot fire lookout steel tower on this tenth acre site. This will be the highest tower in the Cumberland River Fires Control Unit. The extra height makes extra cost. There are two other locations which might have been better. One is on Sewell Mt. and the other on Poplar Mt. However, both are inaccessible to electric power and persons to work as lookout watchman."
