April 24, 1966: "Jotting followers in Redding, too, request mention and so we scan Redding's Fire Tower where Mrs. Margaret M. Wixted has been watching 45 hours a week since March. The 52 foot perch is a seasonal job and normally short for the busy housewife but this spring has been so dry she hasn't had a day off in three weeks. A short wave radio keeps her in touch with Connecticut's 14 fire towers. Roxbury and Oxford towers are her nearest contacts. The hours and extent of vigilance is determined by state readings beamed on the radio every morning. As an employe of the Park and Forest commission, she is found in the Putnam Park Museum."
