BERGLAND
Ontonagon County - Ottawa National Forest
July 7, 1953: "State conservation department officials announced today that a new forest fire watch tower will be set up at the site of one blown down near Bergland during a windstorm last week.
The 100-foot steel tower which was blown down was more than 20 years old and was completely destroyed. No one was injured since the watchman had gone off duty for the night when the storm hit.
The new tower already is being used at a secondary watch point and will be transported to the Bergland site." (Record-Eagle)
