1937-38: "Additional towers and telephone lines were constructed during the year by the Civilian Conservation Corps at no cost to the State or protective associations. Seven new steel fire towers were erected, including Green Pond in Colleton County." (Report of the State Commission of Forestry, 7/1/1937 - 6/30/1938
October 13, 1938: "According to Ranger L. M. Stokes, Jr., improvements on the Green Pond tower site have been completed and the site will be occupied immediately by Towerman J. M. White.
In addition to the 100-foot steel forest fire tower, a dwelling, barn, chicken house, smoke house, and other necessary outbuildings have been constructed on the Green Pond tower site by CCC boys from the Stokes camp under the supervision of A. M. Addison. The are on which the Green Pond tower is located embraced ten acres. That portion of the ten acre tract not occupied by improvements is available to the towerman for growing crops for home consumption.
The Green Pond tower unit is the fourth to be completed in Colleton county." (The Press and Standard)
1938-39: "Tower unit buildings consisting of a four room dwelling, barn, smokehouse, chicken house and latrine were constructed at six tower sites, namely: Green Pond in Colletin County." (Report of the State Commission of Forestry, 7/1/1938 - 6/30/1939)
July 15, 1949: "Mr. Archie Crosby, lookout towerman at Green Pond forest fire tower in Colleton county, has been judged first prize winner of the Towersite Improvement contest for 1948-49, according to Assistant State Forester John R. Tiller of the S.C. State Commission of Forestry.
This annual contest encourages the towerman to develop a complete live-at-home program and to improve and develop the small area of state owned land on which they live." (Aiken Standard and Review)
