July 12, 1911: "Two appointments as forest observers were made by Forest, Fish and Game Commissioner James W. Fleming Monday. One, Calvin La Prairie of Racquette Lake for West mountain. Will be engaged only during the season when forest fires are most liable to occur, at a salary of $60 a month." (The Post-Star)
