MILLVILLE
New Jersey - Cumberland County
April 26, 1922: "A new 60 foot steel lookout tower which guards one of the largest wilderness areas in New Jersey, has just been opened by the State Forest Fire Service. It is 2 1/2 miles east of Millville on the Bridgeton Pike.
The tower overlooks the greater part of Cumberland and part of Salem county. When the weather is clear the view extends well into Atlantic county, up into Gloucester, and out onto Delaware Bay and Delaware river to the south and west. The territory under observation is one of the most troublesome ones in the state and it is expected that the new tower will aid greatly in cutting down the number of fires.
Like other state-owned towers, the Millville one will be open to the public." (The Hopewell Herald)

1922: "A sixty foot steel tower was erected about 2 miles west of Millville, Cumberland County, along the Millville-Bridgeton Pike. This station was established with State funds and opened for service on April 1." (Annual Report - Department of Conservation and Development, 1922-23)
April 20, 1942: "Mr. and Mrs. Josiah Hankins, of Bridgeton Pike, opposite Forest Fire Lookout Tower, will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on Wednesday.
Most of the Millvillians know Mr. Hankins beast as the watchman at the Forest Fire Lookout Tower, where he served from the time the tower was built until a few weeks ago, when his health forced him to retire." (The Millville Daily)
