1974-75: "Rockton was built in the Moshannon State Forest on Rockton Mountain in 1975 to replace Old Town and Boone Mountain towers. In May 1974, the Department of Properties and Surplus bid the construction of Rockton and four other towers throughout PA for DER (Department of Environmental Resources). A local company, Carns Brothers, Inc. of Clearfield, PA submitted the low bid for the construction of the Rockton Tower. Limited correspondence exists during the tower construction, but it indicated that work neared completion in a change order dated November 1975. A final inspection report exists from February 1976. Final cost of the construction equaled $35,285." (From internal DCNR files)
