May 20, 1938: "Delos Rockwell is in charge of the fire tower in Pinora township." (Lake County Star)
June 16, 1938: "Completion of the recently erected Pinora fire tower is, announced by Sam Cline, Project Superintendent of Camp Houghton Lake 83-S. Formerly known as the Barton Tower, located south of Chase, Mich., the tower was moved to its new location 4 miles south of Luther to provide protection for the high, rolling area of wild land there. Dismantling at the Barton site and erection of the tower framework was accomplished by Camp Houghton Lake in cooperation with Camp Bitely last fall. Final work constituting completion of the tower was the installation of lightning protection which was accomplished by burying heavy copper wire, attached to the legs, around the base of the tower." July 1, 1948: "Earl Hemstreet, 18, of Luther, admitted to officials that he and a 14-year-old boy climbed the Pinora fire tower and wanted to see the towerman's apparatus sail through the air.
The towerman's seat, chart board and various printed forms were tossed out of the tower during the towerman's absence, according to State Trooper William France, who investigated.
Hemstreet was ordered by Justice R. P. Gleason to pay $3.60 court costs and to repair the damage and clean the grounds around the base of the tower." (Osceola County Herald)
