July 25, 1935: "Construction of a new fire tower on Shade Mountain in Juniata county will be completed within the next week, George H. Wirt, chief of the division of forest protection. Department of Forests and Waters, announced today.
The Juniata tower is one of a group of new lookouts being constructed under the emergency conservation work program in Pennsylvania; and like others, it will fit strategically into the department's state-wide chain of such observation stations.
The new tower, which will be located in the heart of the Rothrock forest district, will be of steel construction, and eighty feet high." (The Gazette and Daily)
