February 16, 1934: "An appropriation of $225 has been made by the Warren county board of supervisors toward the construction of a fire lookout station on the Blue Ridge near Ashby's Gap, and close to the Clarke county line.
Clarke county will appropriate a like sum for the tower, and the residue of the cost will be paid by the Federal forestry service.
The station will be operated by the Federal service for the joint protection of Warren and Clarke county forests from fire losses." (Harrisonburg Daily News Record)
