April 2, 1932: "Forest land throughout Groton and its vicinity is additionally protected against fire as a result of officials taking advantage of the tower at Chasanba lodge, Fort Hill, for stationing a lookout, who will keep a close watch for fires on the many miles of land visible from the tower.
The lookout reports to work early in the morning and remains at the tower until 6 o'clock. From the tower, the lookout may sight smoke as far west as Waterford besides a considerable distance in other directions." (The Day)
