October 10, 1926: "The Spring Mountain tower on the Boone-Logan County line at the head of Pond Fork of Little Coal River as present only has a forest telephone line connection but it is planned to connect this station at Blair with a line working out of Madison central office." October 19, 1953: "One casualty in the fire fighting force was reported for Friday night when Cody Allen, tower observer at Spring Mountain in District 5, near the Logan-Boone county border, was injured when an electric generator exploded.
Dave Sterling, district forester at Hamlin, said Allen was still in Logan General Hospital for observation last night.
Allen received an injured shoulder and slight burns about the face during the fire at the tower, Sterling said.
Allen fell approximately 20 feet from the third landing of the tower as he was escaping the tower, according to Sterling.
The district forester said the tower was completely out of operation after the explosion and fire. Repairs will start today or tomorrow." (Beckley Post-Herald)
October 21, 1953: "Cody Allen, a forest fire tower observer, was injured near Lorado at the Spring Mountain fire tower Friday night when a gasoline generator exploded.
Allen suffered a possible shoulder fracture and minor burns. He is a patient in Logan General Hospital at Logan.
The radio and generator in the tower were saved but the windows in the observation room were shattered by the force of the explosion." (Beckley Post-Herald)
