November 1927: "Organized protection from fire has just been undertaken on four forest properties in South Carolina, aggregating 158,000 acres, under cooperative agreements between the State forestry commission and the owners. These include the Myrtle Beach Estates, 66,000 acres.
On the Myrtle Beach property a newly built water tank on a steel tower structure 125 feet high will be used as a lookout." (The Forest Worker)
1928: "The cupola on the top of Forest Inn which rises about 150 feet into the air is used as a lookout in protecting the lands of the Myrtle Beach Estates." (South Carolina Commission of Forestry - 1928)
