May 29, 1941: "Mrs. J.T. Foreman, chairman of publicity, states that Alridge Tower which is to be dedicated June 18th at 4:00 p.m. o'clock, is located about five miles from Jasper and may be reached by a good road.
When the State Department of Conservation announced a wooden fire tower would be erected at this place, friends of the late Abner B. Aldridge conceived the idea of having the tower named in his honor and dedicated to his memory. The approached the Department with the proposition that they be allowed to contribute the difference in the cost of the proposed wooden tower and an all-steel structure and thus honor one who had done much for Walker County and the cause of conservation in Alabama. The plan was cordially approved by the officials of the Department and the difference in cost was quickly contributed by Mr. Aldridge's friends in Walker County and in the Birmingham district and the all-steel tower is now completed, the grounds are being put in shape." June 26, 1941: "Aldridge Tower - This structure is dedicated to the memory of Abner Bell Aldridge by Friends who knew his love for the forests, hills, and streams of Walker County, and his effective work in the cause of conservation of natural resources in Alabama. A.D. 1941."
The foregoing quotation is taken from a large stone tablet erected at the base of the Aldridge fire tower, just south- west of Jasper, which was dedicated Wednesday afternoon, June 18, in the presence of about 700 people.
Mrs. Jno. T. Foreman, of America, was the person who took the initiative in raising a fund among friends of Mr. Aldridge to pay the difference between a wooden fire tower and the steel one." (Daily Mountain Eagle)
