APALACHEE
Georgia - Morgan County - Georgia Forestry Commission
January 24, 1957: "The Georgia Forestry Commission Morgan fire tower now located at Bostwick will be moved to Apalachee as soon as possible, Morgan-Walton Ranger Harold Jones announced this week.
The 100-foot-tall tower is being moved to provide better coverage of Morgan and Walton County forests, Jones said.
The holes for the tower will be dug starting next week on land donated by Marion Cochran, of Apalachee. The tower will be located just off the Madison-Athens highway about a mile northeast of Apalachee.
The moving and re-erection of the tower is expected to be completed within six to eight weeks, depending on weather conditions, Jones said.
The foundation holes will be seven feet deep and six by six feet wide. They will be filled with concrete and the tower legs will be sunk in them.
The new tower will give Morgan and Walton three full-time fire towers plus two more which are manned in critical fire periods." (The Madisonian)
