February 15, 1938: "Construction of a new radio-equipped fire tower at Brandy Wine, in Southern Maryland, was announced today by the State Forestry Department.
W.A. Quick, Assistant State Forester, said the department was rebuilding a 93-foot tower to a height of 120 feet to give the two-way radio outfit greater range. The set itself will be constructed in the forestry's radio laboratory at Laurel.
Quick said completion of the Brandy Wine station will mark the start of a program to extend forestry radio service into Southern Maryland. Later, a 160 foot control tower will be built at Cedarville, south of Brandy Wine, to serve the entire area." (The Daily Times)
