October 15, 1955: "Warren Meeker, a forest ranger and fire observer at Wakely Mountain, suffered a fatal heart attack yesterday while driving to this Adirondack hamlet for provisions. He was 64.
Meeker's body was found in an automobile along a woods road near here." (Wellsville Daily Reporter)
January 21, 1960: "A 1,200 acre tract of scenic Adirondack timberland was donated as a recreational area to the people of New York State by International Paper Company and Finch, Pruyn and Company, Inc. in ceremonies at Albany, New York last night.
The tract is considered one of the finest examples of rugged Adirondack terrain in New York. It is atop Wakeley Mountain, a 3600-foot peak near the town of Indian Lake in Hamilton County, and adjoins existing lands already held by the state in the Adirondack Preserve. The property includes the site of the Wakeley Mountain fire tower previously provided by the companies for the protection of the Adirondack forests." (The Massena Observer)
