NORTH CAROLINA LOOKOUTS
FOX MOUNTAIN
Iredell County
February 7, 1956: "A new fire detection tower atop Fox Mountain in North Iredell County should be completed this month, R.G. Carney, county forester, told the board of county commissioners yesterday.
Carney said the tower, formerly used as an electric transmission tower in Rowan County, was donated to Iredell's forestry service by Mill Power Supply Co., Charlotte. It was moved here from Rowan County and is being reconstructed atop the mountain by Love Valley, Inc., and the Forestry Service, he said." (Statesville Record and Landmark)

November 22, 1958: "Fox Mountain Tower in North Iredell picked up the smoke about 2 p.m. The blaze was brought under control by John Christie, Iredell Smoke chaser, with the aid of people in the fire area." (Statesville Record and Landmark)
May 21, 1968: "Commissioners passed a resolution requesting the district forester to continue the operation of the Fox Mountain Fire Tower which he had indicated would be closed. Joe S. Hinshaw, district forester, explained that the department had constructed more permanent and higher towers which would give 'adequate' detection but admitted the detection in this area might not be as good. Representatives from some of the volunteer fire departments were present to ask that the tower be continued. James Hollar said the tower was a great help to the departments in pin-pointing fires."
