(Buffalo Mountain) Unicoi / Washington Counties Cherokee National Forest
September 6, 1931: "J.W. Garland, representative of the Tennessee Eastman Corporation, Friday addressed a meeting of the fire wardens of the Watauga ranger district of the Unaka National Forest who gathered at the foot of the 40-foot lookout tower which is being constructed on Buffalo Mountain. The meeting was held to discuss the ways and means of handling the forest fire situation on the Watauga range during the coming autumn and spring months." (Kingsport Times)
October 2011: The tower had undergone restoration and was reopened on the 27th . Along with the renovations a new hiking trail was built to the tower.
