June 15, 1933: "Purchase of the land on which is located the state fire observation station on Belfry Mountain in the town of Moriah, Essex county, in the Adirondack section has been made by the conservation department, upon approval of title by the department law. Payment has just been made for this half acre tract. In addition to this area the deed conveys to the state a 12 foot right of way from the public highway to the lands acquired, along which follows the present trail leading to the station.
This purchase is in line with the department's established policy of securing as rapidly as they can be obtained at reasonable prices, the land upon which the forest fire observation stations are located." (Adirondack Record-Elizabethtown Post)
