August 3, 1939: "The United States Forest Service has launched an intensive fire observation tower construction program in the White Mountain National Forest area which, when finally concluded a year from this fall, will nearly double the number of towers now in operation. Completion of two is expected the latter part of this month.
Towers that will be completed within a few weeks are located on Carr Mountain, elevation 3,470 feet, in northeast section of Wentworth.
The tower is being built by a Forest Service crew in charge of Everett Kimball of Lacinia." (The Portsmouth Herald)
