CENTRAL ISLIP
Suffolk County
April 6, 1922: "Declaring that the Town of Islip was ahead of most of the towns of the State of New York in the matter of forest fire prevention and fighting. W.G. Howard, Assistant Superintendent of State forests for the Conservation Commission, yesterday urged that it be continued. He advocated the plan set forth by Fire Warden Wohlfarth of Central Islip to remove the fire tower now on the property of the South Side Club to his property in Central Islip, which will give a far greater range of view." (The Brooklyn Daily Eagle)
April 27, 1933: "Robert Wohlfarth, Central Islip fire warden, has filed a petition with the Islip Town Board, asking that the 70-foot fire tower in the yard of his late father's home, be moved to his own back yard so that he might be enabled to watch for forest fires. The tower was used by his father, now deceased, when he was fire warden." (The County Review)
