NEW HAMPSHIRE LOOKOUTS
OAK HILL
Merrimack County
January 1929: "Another steel tower and cabin were recently completed on Oak Hill in the town of Loudon, near the Concord line. This tower is approximately in the center of a 40-mile stretch between other stations." (The Forest Worker)
June 12, 1947: "Governor Dale and the executive council began eminent domain proceedings to obtain about two acres of land on Oak Hill in Concord where the State Forestry Department maintains a forest fire lookout tower.
Owners of the land, Hiram W. and John O. Cate, refused to sell the land to the state, the Governor said, when purchase terms did not meet their approval.
He said the state sought a right of way for telephone and power lines on the hill and also the way to a natural spring. The tower, originally set up by the Forestry Department as an experiment, has been used successfully, covering a large area of the Merrimack river valley." (Nashua Telegraph)
