July 31, 1930: "The State Forestry commission has begun construction of a 100-foot forest fire tower about half a mile north of here." (The Greenville News)
1930: "One 100 foot steel lookout tower was erected 3 1/2 miles northeast of Camden in August, 1930." (Report of the State Commission of Forestry, 1930)
1931: "Employed January 1, 1931 to stay on Camden tower daily except when called down by the Forester and to report such fires in or endanering the protected area. Time employed to vary ccording to weather conditions, etc. and wagesnot to exceed $2.00 per day or $50.00 per month." "Expenditures 1930-31 (to April 1), Lookout Tower: One 100 foot steel lookout tower --$1,072.00; Freight on tower -- $191.24; Labor and supplies -- $376.16." 1937-38: "Tower unit buildings consisting of a four room dwelling, barn, smoke house, chicken house and latrine were constructed at five tower sites. Camden being one of these sites." (Report of the State Commission of Forestry, 7/1/1937 - 6/30/1938)
