COLFAX MOUNTAIN
Washington County
October 2, 1950: "The program approved more than a year ago by the Washington County Board of Supervisors for the erection of a fire tower in the southern part of the county is soon to be realized. A tower has been shipped to the Town of Jackson, but just where it will be located has not yet been announced by the state. For some time the state has been planning to erect a tower in this county which will provide coverage of the area and tie in with other fire towers in this part of the state.
The tower is now at the Roy Brown property in Jackson where it is being temporarily stored. Mount Colfax in Jackson has been generally considered as the site for the location of the tower but there are two other sites under consideration. The tower is an 80-foot steel structure." (The Post-Star)
