Blue Mountain Reservation
December 27, 1929: "A stone shelter house surmounted by a cupola for a fire observer is being erected by the Westchester County Park Commission on the summit of Spitzenberg in the Blue Mountain Reservation near Peakskill. Trucks and tractors were able to haul in tools and building materials over a rough road leading into the reservation from Washington Street to a point within a few hundred feet of the crag that rises abruptly to form Spitzenberg's summit. The last part of the climb had to be negotiated by a stone boat hauled up by a steel cable and hoist. The main room of the shelter house will be 16 feet square. The cupola will have windows facing the four points and an observer will be on duty during dry periods when there is danger of forest fires." (Scarsdale Inquirer)
