CATHEDRAL ROCK
February 17, 1982: "When alumni visit they often remark how they remember building a portion of road (over 10 miles on the property), or trail (over 11 miles), or planting a stand, or thinning another. Thus their education was intertwined with an operating commercial forest, and their sense of accomplishment was real in two ways. The Ranger School course today is more technical and less vocational than it once was, but students still work on trails, roads, recreation areas, thinning and harvesting, and so on. The last few classes have been erecting an old fire tower on Cathedral Rock, not so much for fire detection as for the experience and to provide a recreational view." (Tribune-Press)
