May 21, 1950: "Alabama has a new, and Choctaw County its first, radio-equipped forest fire tower. The Kinterbish Tower, located a few miles north of Butler, will no longer have to depend on telephone and message-carrying methods of transmitting word of a located forest 'smoke' to trained fire-fighting crews of the Division of Forestry.
A communications crew of the Division of Forestry completed its work in late February of placing radio equipment in the tall forest sentinel which stands on a high hill overlooking nearby Kinterbish Creek. Two-way radio sets in forestry patrol cars will be tuned to the tower's and the State's conservation radio wave length." (The Anniston Star)
