KENTUCKY LOOKOUTS
PILOT ROCK
Christian/Todd Counties
October 17, 1952: "Pilot Rock, one of the county's natural wonders and a landmark in Northeast Christian, has served as a lofty lookout point for both Indians and pioneers in its day. Within a couple of weeks it'll be even loftier and will serve modern man again in a practical way.
Charlie Sharber, forest fire guard for Christian County, said today state and government funds are to be used to build a wooden watchtower on top of the 200-foot-tall phenomenon, which is on property owned by Clarence Boyd. Its elevation is around 900 feet above sea level, one of the highest points in West Kentucky.
The 20-foot tower, when completed, will be one of four serving Christian County. At present a 47-foot steel tower is being constructed on the Emmett Pyle farm, four miles from the city on Cox Mill Road." (Kentucky New Era)
