September 1, 1934: "The forest service has poured the foundations for new towers near the Alger county airport and near Waco Lake, in the southern end of the Hiawatha National Forest.
The tower at the airport, known as the Wetmore tower will be one hundred feet high and will command a fine view of Munising and the surrounding hills, as well as be one of the key in the fire detection and suppression work of the forest service.

THE STATION IS THE APEX OF THE METAL CABIN ATOP THE WETMORE LOOKOUT TOWER WHICH IS LOCATED ON A WOODED RIDGE ABOUT 3 MILES SOUTHEAST OF
STATION IS THE CENTER OF THE TOP OF THE TOWER. IT IS AN ENCLOSED
OBSERVING ROOM AT THE TOP OF A 4 LEG STEEL STRUCTURE. THE ENTIRE STRUCTURE IS PAINTED ORANGE AND HAS AN OVERALL HEIGHT OF 107 FEET.
LOCATED 1 MILE SOUTH OF WETMORE ON FEDERAL FOREST HIGHWAY NO. 13, AND
IN SECTION 24, T-46-N, R-19-W, AND IS OWNED AND OPERATED BY THE U.S.FOREST SERVICE.
