LESHER HILL
Antrim County
December 13, 1923: "A new fire tower has been erected one mile east of Mancelona, which will be known as the Lesher Hill Fire Tower. The altitude at this place is 1365 feet, the highest elevation in the locality. The tower is 18 1/2 feet square at base and set in six feet of concrete and has a height of 62 feet. The house at the top is 7 feet square and 9 feet high and is enclosed on the sides by glass windows. The entire structure weighs 5500 pounds. It is equipped with field glasses, maps and range finders, it also has a telephone which is connected with the Bell System." (Suttons Bay Courier)
July 9, 1925: "Lightning struck the fire tower on Lesher hill Monday noon, but apparently did no damage. F. H. Lesher was hustling in a load of hay from the vicinity of the tower, and reports that one horse was stunned for an instant and staggered groggily for a few steps." (The Mancelona Herald)
