WESTERN
Gogebic County
August 20, 1936: "The new western tower, situated near the Lake Superior road, above what is known as the 'big hill' near the lake, is now in operation. The tower was built this summer. A telephone line to this tower has not been completed and the towerman in charge maintains communication with the Copper Peak tower on the Black River road by means of a short wave radio transmitter and receiving apparatus. A telephone line is to be built to connect the towers." (Daily Globe)
February 17, 1938: "Approval of a telephone line construction project, for forest fire service, has been received at Camp Norrie, it was learned today. The line will be constructed from the western fire tower, near the Chase farm on the Lake Superior road, to the county park at Little Girl's Point." (Daily Globe)
