June 25, 1936: "W. A. Knight, district ranger, Goodman, and J. R. Brown, county ranger, Durant, were in Lexington Monday making needed purchases of material for the erection of a steel fire lookout tower that is expected to arrive shortly, to be used in the woods and grass fire control under the supervision of the fire wardens. The tower will be erected by members of the local CCC camp and located at some site north of Lexington. The tower will be in charge of some warden to be selected later and the outfit will have telephone connection for sending in reports of fires discovered." (The Lexington Advertiser)
July 23, 1936: "J. R. Brown of Durant, was in Lexington this morning, looking after the erection of the fire tower to be located on the poor house property north of Lexington, that will be used by the forest rangers in locating fires. The tower is 100 feet high and will be equipped with a lookout tower and telephone. The tower will be built by the CCC boys." (The Lexington Advertiser)
August 27, 1936: "J. R. Brown of Durant, was in Lexington Monday and stated that the fire tower north of Lexington had been completed and invites the public to inspect same. He stated that telephone poles were being installed starting at the Humphrey county line and completed to Thornton to connect up fire towers. These will be continued to Valley Home where another tower is to be built, and a telephone line brought to Lexington to connect here, giving the three towers service to each other. In this manner fire alarms can be turned in over the entire area." (The Lexington Advertiser)
