HILDA
Jackson County - Mississippi Forest Service
May 3, 1940: "The first test message of the Aircraft Warning Service was sent from Pascagoula, after efforts failed to connect the Hilda fire tower with the central telephone service at Wiggins, reports Theo Webb, who is county chief observer for the Aircraft Warning Service. The actual maneuvers will start next Tuesday May 7, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and will continue through May 11. This maneuver and service is intended to put the army and citizen population of this country on a par with all of Europe, in the matter of aircraft warning. The co-operation is asked of all citizens to make this service a great success." (The Chronicle-Star)
