GLEN ARBOR
Leelanau County - State Department of Conservation
July 28, 1923: "The spot has been selected for the fire tower to be erected here by the state game and fire warden service. It is to be built on the crest of the hill between Glen Haven and Glen Arbor. The work will be done this week." (Record-Eagle)
July 28, 1924: "With the construction of an 85-foot tower---the second of twenty watch towers to be built in Michigan this summer---on top of a 700 foot hill near Glenn Arbor, Leelanau county, marks the final success of plants that fire-fighters in that section have proposed for years. It gives Leelanau county the best possible protection against forest fires.
From a point about 800 feet above lake level a watchman will keep a sharp eye on a 2,000 acre forest and surrounding territory to give the alarm before any forest fire can gain headway." (The Herald-Press)
1928: The tower was moved to a site south of Maple City, named Cedar Tower. (From: Leelanau Enterprise, October 14, 1937)
