NEW HAMPSHIRE LOOKOUTS
UNCANOONUC
Hillsborough County
January 14, 1925: 'George E. Flanders, forest fire warden at Uncanoonuc mountain; the highest peak in southern New Hampshire, died today after a lingering illness. Warden Flanders was well known to thousands of summer visitors to his lookout station perched on the mountain top. He had been connected with the state and federal forestry service for years and before that was a Manchester policeman." (The Portsmouth Herald)
October 29, 1937: "With two exceptions, forest fire lookout stations in New Hampshire are closed, it was said yesterday in the offices of the State Department of Forestry and Recreation. The one on Mt. Uncanoonuc will be closed as soon as repair work now in progress is completed." (The Portsmouth Herald)
