Indiana - Warrick County - Scales Lake State Forest
December 18, 1936: "Additional protection from fire for forested areas in the vicinity of Booneville will result from the erection of a steel fire tower in the Scales Lake state forest, Virgil M. Simmons, commissioner of the department of conservation, announced today. The tower will be located on one of the highest points in the forest and serve an area of approximately thirty-six square miles.
This is the twenty-second forest fire tower to be erected in Indiana under the supervision of the department of forestry, affording protection to approximately three and a half million acres of wooded territory." (Hammond Times)
