BEEBE HILL
Columbia County
April 1, 1965: "Opening of the new state park in this town has been set for May 1, according to an announcement by Stanley Engel of Ghent, forest ranger for this area.
The 1,200 - acre tract, laid out by the state Conservation Department, will be open to camping, hunting and fishing, but there will be no formal camp areas such as that at Taconic State Park in Copake Falls. Campers using the area will 'just have to rough it,' according to Mr. Engel. Entrance to the park will be from County Route 5.
Construction of a fire tower atop Beebe Hill, the highest point in the park, is underway. The tower was dismantled in Copake Falls last fall and moved to its new location. Fred Bashara of Austerlitz has been appointed forest fire observer and will be on duty during the summer and fall months." (Berkshire Eagle - Mass.)
