August 5, 1948: "Choctaw County has dedicated its first symbol--the Butler Mountain forest observation tower--of an expanded forest protection program made possible by the Forest Products Severance Tax Act. Some 250 farmers and businessmen, and their ladies and children, sat on crude wooden benches to hear speakers tell of Choctaw's prominent role in the state's forestry picture and the need for protecting its timber resources."
