LACY (shoals)
Indiana - Martin County - 2N-3W-7 - Hoosier National Forest
August 26, 1931: "C.E. Swain, district forester, who has been spending much time at the Jackson County State Forest, one mile east of Brownstown, left here Monday to spend several days at Shoals to superintend the erection of the tower.
This is the sixth fire tower the conservation department has erected for quick detection of forest fires. According to Mr. Lieber there are approximately 150,000 acres of forest lands and old fields no longer cultivated which are reverting to forests, within these three counties, which require intensive fire protection if the original timber resource id brought back on the land."
