May 24, 1940: "Dedication of Walker County's first completed fire protection tower near here (Jasper) Friday, May 24, will assemble local, State and national conservation leaders, including U.S. Senator John H. Bankhead, chairman of the congressional joint committee of forestry. Senator Bankhead will make the dedication speech at the Albert Russell Fire Tower.
The Albert Russell tower, named for the late Albert Russell, leading Walker County Conservationist, was constructed by the county, WPA and the State Conservation Department. It is 10 miles north of Jasper, and the route will be well marked Friday." (The Montgomery Advertiser)
