1924: "Mr. Harry Ney, a member of the Talcott Mountain Forest Protective Association, is the owner of Johnnycake Mountain in Burlington. This has an elevation of about 1,000 feet. Mr. Ney will build and equip a lookout station on this mountain which commands a splendid view in various directions. When this station is in operation, the Bristol station, which only serves a limited area, will be discontinued." (The Work of a Forest Protective Association)
1929: "In the spring of 1929, Mr. Harry Ney of Farmington, presented to the State a small plot of ground on the summit of Johnnycake Mountain in the western part of Burlington. This is about six miles northwest of Bristol. A steel tower 50 feet high was erected at this point. This is the highest tower thus far erected by the Department."
