ORANGE (paoli)
Indiana - Orange County
August 20, 1932: "A new steel fire tower, from eighty to 100 feet high, is to be constructed at the junction of the Marengo and English highways. The site was obtained this week by a representative of the state forestry department. The tower will be equipped with telephone and a watchman will be kept on duty three months in the spring and three in the fall. Farmers of Orange county will be organized into fire brigades, so that they can extinguish flames readily in case of forest fires." (The Indianapolis News)
January 1933: "The second district's tower, 100 feet in height, is about 5 miles south of Paoli and overlooks about 75,000 acres in southern Orange and northern Crawford Counties. The tower is on 55 acres of land set apart for experimental and demonstration forest plantings." (The Forest Worker)
