PINE LOG MOUNTAIN
Georgia - Cherokee County
February 10, 1938: "Construction of a fire tower atop Pine Log Mountain will be started as soon as a truck trail to the mountain top is completed, T. P. Hursey, district forester, said here Wednesday.
Work on the truck trail began Tuesday. It is being constructed by CCC workers from Cartersville. The road will be 4.8 miles long, up the eastward side of the mountain west of Waleska.
The tower will be 50 feet high. It will be on five acres of land donated to the State Division of Forestry by Col. Sam Tate.
Mr. Hursey reminded the public that the burning season is ended, and that only supervised burnings are legal now.---North Georgia Tribune." (Pickens County Progress)
