May 2, 1924: "Workmen under supervision of District Fire Warden William D. Kelsey will commence construction this week of a road on the Z.D. Conklin farm to lead to Turkey Hill, located between and Waterloo, where Department of Conservation and Development will erect a fire warden's sixty-foot lookout tower.

October 23, 1925: "According to Mrs. Samuel Crease, who before her marriage last week was Miss Lottie Conklin, forest fire lookout at the Turkey Hill fire tower of the State Department of Conservation and Development, more than 1,300 persons have inspected the tower since March 20, when it was opened for the season. She was installed as lookout at the tower November 6, last year, and resumed her work again in the spring.
The tower, at the top of Waterloo Mountain, a part of the Schooley's Mountain range, affords a view over a radius of more than fifty miles. With the aid of binoculars, Newton, Port Morris, Netcong-Stanhope, Delaware Water Gap, Culver's Gap, Lake Hopacong. Drakestown, Waterloo, French's Pond, Lake Lackawanna and Cranberry Lake may be easily identified." (The Courier-News)
