DELAWARE
Keweenaw County
June 7, 1923: "The annual battle to prevent forest fires, which has become one of the traditions of the north country, has begun in Keweenaw and other counties of the Upper Peninsula.
Keweenaw county especially is expected to be kept from from fires this year through the commissioning by the state of a great fire tower near Delaware. This tower, built to such a height as to permit a clear view of virtually every section of the county by the aid of powerful field glasses, will be occupied constantly during daylight hours by a solitary watcher who will train his glasses first in one direction and then in another. He will be on the lookout constantly for the telltale wisp of smoke that presages a mighty forest fire." (Ironwood Daily Globe)
