March 1931: "The first forest fire observation tower in southwestern Georgia was recently erected by the Pine Island Timber Protective Association near Albany, Ga. The tower is 60 feet high and is located on a 20-foot hill. It is an inside stairway built of heart cypress." (Forest Worker)
